➡️Do you want to be happier, healthier, a better friend, have more friends, be more optimistic, have a better life? According to the BIBLE, and according to science, it starts with being thankful! UCLAhealth.org says that “people with a thankful mindset report higher satisfaction with life, stronger social relationships and more self-esteem”. According to MENSline.org, some of the benefits of being thankful include feeling happier, boosted energy levels, better health, and better relationships.” Even if you don’t believe the Bible, follow the science when it comes to thanksgiving – being thankful is just the right thing to do. I’m going to give you three tips about “being thankful”; but, first, what does the BIBLE SAY? Here’s ten of my favorite GIVE THANKS scriptures:

1…I Chronicles 16:34 – “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His mercy endures forever”
2…I Chronicles 16:8 – “Give thanks to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done”
3…I Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”
4…Colossians 3:17 – “Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him”
5…Colossians 4:2 – “Spend a lot of time in prayer. Always be watchful and thankful”
6…Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”
7…Psalm 100:4 – “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise”
8…Psalm 107:1 – “O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever”
9…Psalm 116:17-18 – “I will offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of Jehovah. I will bring a song of thanksgiving to God as a sacrifice”
10…Psalm 69:30 – “I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving”
I love the BIBLE, because I love truth. And the Bible is truth! Here’s THREE principles, taken from the Bible, for you to think about when it comes to THANKSGIVING – and like I said earlier, apply these biblical principles to your life, and you will be happier, healthier, have better relationships, have more confidence…and the list goes on and on:
1…THANKSGIVING takes you to where God is – God is always drawn to a thankful heart – Psalm 100:4, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise”. If you want to get to the heart of God, be thankful. Any parent understands this – you’re always drawn to the child that says “thank you”.
2…THANKSGIVING changes your perspective – it makes God bigger, it magnifies God. Psalm 34:3, “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together.” You may still have this HUGE problem, but next to God, the biggest problem becomes small.
3…THANKSGIVING is not a feeling, it’s a choice – Psalm 116:17 says, “I will offer God the sacrifice of thanksgiving”. I may not feel it, it’s a sacrifice…but I still worship. I had a friend one time, a smart aleck actually, ask me this question, “so if my house burns to the ground, I’m still suppose to be thankful?” YES! Not because I lost my home, but in the middle of whatever, like Job I say, “God gives and takes a way; blessed be the name of the Lord”. I make a decision to be thankful and worship God for who he is, and not for what he does.
Here’s a quick challenge for you this week – write out a list of at least 25 things that you’re thankful for — as you think of more, write them down as well. For example, I started my list:
- I’m alive
- I have food to eat
- I have a beautiful wife
- I have three amazing children
- My children love and serve the Lord
- My family is blessed
- My church
- My business
- My home
- Peace
- Good sleep at night
- The Bible
- Forgiveness
- New mercies every morning
- Worship music
- Technology
- A strong back
- A sharp mind
- A healthy body
- Favor
- The eyes of the Lord are on me
- God hears my prayers
- No trouble will come near my house
- God assigns his angels to protect me
- I’m free, because he who the sons sets free is free indeed
Make a choice this week to be thankful – no matter what you may feel or see; lean into the truth of the word of God, because the BIBLE is always right!
