➡️I was born with a crippling disease in my feet, something in my blood that would cause my skin to break out, kind of like a modern day leprosy.  I would have to soak my feet at night; I ended up missing a lot of school growing up; I often walked with a limp, or I had to use crutches.  It was very painful, and very embarrassing.

I was raised in a Christian family, so we believed that God could heal, but we also believed that God would not always heal. When anyone went before the church for any healing, the pastor and leaders would always pray the same prayer, “God, if it’s your will…then heal; but if it’s not your will, we trust you”….or something like that.  And, of course, it was never God’s will — we never saw anyone healed.

Back to my childhood disease — I dealt with it for 30 years. I learned how to hide my pain; I continued to soak my feet; I would wrap my feet and wear certain socks and shoes — it was just a part of who I was.  I told no one. However, when I was 30 years old, I was traveling full-time with a Christian band, and the band leader came into my room one night while I was soaking my feet, so I ended telling him my story.  He, being a man of faith, quickly said it was not God’s will that I had that disease. I told him how we had prayed again and again, and God never healed it. However, he prayed a prayer of faith, and it was like heat hit my feet, and I was instantly healed.  So obviously, since that day, I have a new understanding of healing — when I pray, I pray as if it’s always God’s will to heal. I believe it’s in His Word.

Here’s a few examples:

1…Matthew 8:16-17 — “Jesus healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.”

The only people who were not healed by Jesus were the ones who never went to Jesus.  Everyone in the Bible who came to Jesus was healed.

2…Psalms 103:2-3 — “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases”.

We would never pray, “God, if it’s your will, forgive our sins.”  So why do we pray, “God, if it’s your will, heal our diseases”?  Every promise in the scripture is yes and amen!  God will forgive my sins; God will heal my diseases!

3…James 4:15 — “If it’s the Lords will, we will do this or that”.  This scripture has nothing to do with healing.  James 4 says, “Now listen, you who say, ‘today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money’. We should say, ‘if it’s the Lord’s will, we will do this or that.’”

4…James 5:14-15 — “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”

So…of course, the big question…why are some people healed and some are not? I don’t know — I do not have an answer for that.  My dad died several years ago with a horrible disease, and I prayed every day that God would heal him.  He didn’t. However, our personal stories and testimonies do not change the Word of God.  When I pray for myself, for my family, my friends, or my loved ones, I have to pray from the scripture that says it is God’s will to heal; Jesus took up all our sicknesses; because of the blood of Jesus, God forgives my sins and heals my body.  When I pray, I go to the Bible, the absolute truth, the Word of God — according to the Word of God, you will be healed — and the Bible is always right!
