➡️According to pewresearch.org, 90% of Americans believe in God, 71% believe in heaven, but only 61% believe in an actual hell.  Most people have a hard time accepting the fact that such a good God, who they believe in, would ever create such a bad place like Hell.   However, just because someone doesn’t believe in something doesnt change the facts.  You may not believe in gravity, but if you jump off my house, you will end up in the hospital because gravity is a fact. In the same way, hell is a fact. But before we go any further, let me share some good news — hell was never created for us.  According to Matthew 25:41, hell is prepared for the devil and his angels – that’s not us. 

That’s great news for all us – and it’s true, because it’s in the Bible, and the Bible is absolute truth. If the Bible says it, I’ve chosen to believe it. So what does the Bible say about hell?

1…HELL IS A REAL PLACE.  Jesus actually talked more about hell than he did about heaven. 

Matthew 16:18 talks about the gates of hell. 

Revelation 20:10 and 21:8, speaks of the atmosphere of hell – saying it’s filled with fire and sulfur, and it’s a place of torment day and night.  

Matthew 10:28 and Luke 16 gives a description of people who are in hell, even saying from hell they can see into heaven.  

It’s a real place that you can touch, experience and feel.  It’s a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth, according to Matthew 8:12.  I Thessalonians 1:9  reminds us there is nothing good about hell. 

2…HELL IS FILLED WITH REAL PEOPLE.  Like I said earlier, hell was not prepared for us, but according to Revelation 20:14, we will all stand before God one day, and he will open a book, it’s called the Lambs Book of Life, and if our name is not written in that book, we will go to hell.

According to Matthew 23:33, religious people will be in hell. 

Matthew 7:21-23 says that people who even prophesy and do signs and wonders will go to hell. Why?  Because they don’t know God.  Doing good things is not enough, we have to have a relationship with God.

Revelation 21:8 says that people who don’t believe will go to hell, the detestable will go to hell, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, liars and even cowards will go to hell. 

Hell is not a fairytale, it’s real.

3…HELL IS FOREVER. 

According to Matthew 25:46, hell is eternal – it never, ever ends.  Hell is forever, but listen to me, so is heaven.  2 Peter 3:9 says that God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell; he is so patient with us, wanting us to repent.  Repentance simply means to turn from our old life of sin and turn to a new life with him – and John 10:10 says that life with God is abundant life – it’s a good life, it’s a blessed life.  John 3:16 reminds us that God loves us so much that he gave his one and only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins so that we would not have to go to hell, but instead we would have eternal life with him. 

That’s great news! It’s in the Bible – and the Bible is always right!
