➡️As Christians, our bodies do not belong to us; they are a sacred gift from God, intended to be a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. The Bible teaches that our physical bodies are a temple – and just like the Israelites took great care of the Old Testament Temple, we are called to be good stewards of our temples, our bodies.

I recently read an article about six foods we should never put into our bodies; but before I share those, let’s look at what the Bible says about taking care of our bodies:
1…Our bodies are not our own. According to I Corinthians 6:19-20, “Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we are not our own; therefore, we should honor God with our bodies”.
2…Divine health is God’s plan for us. Psalm 103:3 says, “God forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases (in the original language this word includes any sickness or pain). Exodus 23:25 says, “Worship the Lord your God and his blessing will be on your food and water. He will take away sickness from among you.” God wants us to be healthy.
3…God expects us to take care of our bodies. God does promise good health, but that doesn’t mean we can just sit around and eat ice cream and bon bons all day – we have to do our part. Romans 12:1 says to “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.” Common sense tells us an apple is better than a cupcake, orange juice is better than Dr Pepper, and walking around the block is better than sitting on the couch. Again, we’ve got to do our part.
There’s three Biblical truths – but now let’s get practical:
WHAT NOT TO EAT?
According to my recent health article, here’s 6 more foods we should never put into our bodies: cheese, red meat, egg yoke, cream, butter and fried foods. In other words, do a search of every fast food restaurant in your area, and X them off of your dinner plans.
WHAT CAN I EAT?
If cheeseburgers and fries are not an option, what is?
Here’s a few of my favorites – fruits, vegetables, fibers, nuts, dark chocolate, oatmeal, grilled chicken, frozen yogurt, and Greek yogurt.
THE TEN MINUTE RULE
Personally, I drink a lot of water, I don’t drink any soda and I exercise almost every morning. However, I do have a weakness: chocolate. I love chocolate! However, I had someone share this simple rule with me when I want to eat too much chocolate, it’s called the 10 minute rule: When you want to eat something that’s not good for you, say “I will not eat it for the next 10 minutes.” Then go drink a glass of water and do something else.
You can take a walk, you can balance your checkbook, you can play a game, you can organize your closet…or you can take ten minutes and PRAY! Remind yourself, and remind God that you want to please Him in everything you do, including taking of your body. I Corinthians 10:31 says, “Everything we do, including eating and drinking, should be done for the glory of God”
It’s in the Bible, and the Bible is always right!
