As a child growing up, I always struggled with fear – fear of the night, fear of rejection, fear of loss, fear of not being enough. For YEARS I believed this – and, sadly, most people do. According to the World Health Organization, there’s over 301 million people dealing with fear today. However, if we know God, WE DO NOT HAVE TO BE AFRAID – imagine living a life of no fear? WE CAN!

There are many names of God in the Bible – he’s our Shepherd, our Defender, our Healer, our Peace…and more. But one of my favorite names of God comes from the final verse in Ezekiel – GOD IS THERE. The word “there” in the original language is JEHOVAH SHAMMAH – when we feel afraid of the dark, God is there; when we fear rejected, God is there; when we fear loss, God is there; if we ever fear not being enough, God is there! When this revelation sinks in, we will not be afraid. Why? Because God, the ruler of everything, is with us – he’s already there!

This is the birth of the SHAMMAH BEAR.

When I left for college, my mom put a verse inside my Bible, Joshua 1:9 – “Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” I’m in my 50’s – and that little slip of paper is still in my Bible; it’s priceless to me.

I leave the same verse with you – God is always there, he’s with you – therefore, you do not have to be afraid – “God will be with you wherever you go!” He is JEHOVAH SHAMMAH.
