➡️I was raised in a culture that said being poor was “more spiritual”. We even looked down on people who lived in certain houses and drove certain cars. As I grew older, however, I started hanging around people that believed God WANTED you to be living in certain houses and driving certain cars.  Simply “name it and claim it.” Hmmm??

So when it comes to this “name and claim it” gospel, what does the Bible say?

1…We can claim anything the Bible declares.  If I have $100 in my bank account, for example, the banker doesn’t have the right to say I can only claim half of that – no, I have the right to all of it – it’s all mine.  In the same way, the Word of God is His covenant with his people – that’s us!  The Bible is like my bank account – just like every dollar in my account is mine, every promise in the Bible is also mine.  Contrary to popular teaching, I can’t claim a mansion and a Mercedes – I can work towards that, and I can even ask the Father – but that’s not in the Bible. But I can claim peace, prosperity, healing, forgiveness, wisdom, joy, hope – that’s all in my account.

2…If we can claim what the Bible declares, we have to know what the Bible declares.  If I don’t know what’s in my account, I’ll never make a withdrawal.  I’ll never claim what’s actually mine.  The Bible is filled with promises, and according to 2 Corinthians 1:20, “…no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.  And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God”.  So God gives a promise, and I say “Yes and Amen!”

3…Do not say anything that you can’t back up with the Bible.  Good or bad. According to Matthew 12:36, “…on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak”.  Show me in the Bible where it says you’re defeated, you’re overwhelmed, or maybe you’re scared; that may be how you feel, but that’s not who you are.  Don’t let those words come out of your mouth – you will be held responsible for the words you speak. Zip it up. The Bible says you’re more than a conqueror, you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength, and God has not given you a spirit of fear.  You can say that, you can name and claim it – that’s in the Bible and the Bible is always right.
