Starting A School?

I was a Worship Pastor for years – I loved my job, and I loved my church. I was not unhappy at all doing what I was doing. HOWEVER, the last couple of years as a worship pastor, I decided to start a music school – my first semester we had 27 students – and I was so excited about that! By the end of the year, we grew to around 75 students. Last year, we had over 400 students and/or registrations. And we keep growing….

WHY A SCHOOL? As a worship pastor, the two MAIN issues we were dealing with was the LACK OF MUSICIANS and the EXCELLENCE of the musicians we had. Can you relate? Actually, this is what I heard from other worship leaders all of the time. Even while I was a full-time worship pastor, I was constantly raising up young musicians – the players on my stage started around 15 years of age, maybe younger. Some of them weren’t even plugged in, but they were still a part of the process, learning the stage, the songs, the culture. It worked. We had amazing musicians – but we worked hard to raise them up from a young age. In our school today, there are young musicians that I would put on a stage at age 7 – seriously, they’re that good. I watched a main BETHEL worship set just recently, and they had a drummer on set, next to the main drummer, who couldn’t have been older than 10 years of age. And he was nailing it! Again, he was part of the process, the stage, the culture. And it worked!

TODAY, instead of focusing on my local church, we are raising up musicians and leaders for several churches – we have students on stages all over the state, and beyond. We have students that have written plays for theater. We have students that have auditioned for American Idol. We have students recording, selling, leading, teaching others…and more! And in the process, we’re’making a difference – and I’m making a lot of money…so I can keep expanding, reaching even more. It’s a win, win for everyone – personally, our churches, and our communities.

And, of course, it’s not just about making money. It’s about reaching your community, it’s about raising up worship leaders, filling churches with experienced musicians, and making a difference in the kingdom of God. Now that I make money in our school, I can serve my church and they don’t have to pay me anything. It’s a win-win for everyone involved. SOUND GOOD?

It’s fun, it makes a huge difference in the community, it’s profitable and it’s something YOU can do!

1…Pray and ask God for wisdom. We’re Christians – we believe in the wisdom that God can give. James 1:5 says, “If we lack wisdom, we can ask God and he will give it generously without finding fault.”

3…Name it – give your school a name. Two suggestions – do not name it after yourself and do not name it after your town or city. Think bigger than that. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

4…Brand it – give it a logo, a look, specific colors – this is called branding. Think of McDonalds, for example – you know their logo, their colors, their look. No matter where you go in the world, McDonald’s is always the same. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

5…Choose your location. Do not choose your house, and eventually try not to use your church. Lessons in a home screams “small” – and lessons in a church will narrow your audience. Many people do not feel comfortable a home – or a church. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

6…Take care of the business – open a business bank account; register it with the IRS; create a business plan – your marketing strategies, streams of income, financial projections, etc. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

7…Hire instructors. These are not partners, they are employees – you are the boss. This is where your income can dramatically increase, without your hours increasing. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

8…Choose your curriculum – I encourage all of our instructors to stay on the same page – same videos, same books, same themes, same composers and artists. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

9…Define your target audience – personally, our audience is mom‘s of elementary school students. We get students of all ages, from age 3 to grandma’s and grandpa‘s, but our target audience is young moms with young kids. CLICK HERE for full access as we unpack this step. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

10…Establish your online presence – Facebook, Instagram, and websites. We do not have a TikTok account, because most moms of young kids are not on TikTok – rather, they’re on Facebook, Instagram and websites. And remember, we’ve defined our target audience. 11…Work hard. Like anything, it will not just happen – it takes a lot of work, sweat, hours and persistence. But listen, don’t give up and you will succeed. Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans of the diligent will surely prosper”.

AGAIN – YOU CAN DO IT! I was a worship pastor for years – I’ve been where a lot of you guys are. I understand wanting to do more; train future musicians; write, create, have fun – and make more money.
